Jamaican Acting Legend Munair Zacca Passes Away at 79: A Legacy of Theatre and Film

Munair Zacca, a celebrated Jamaican actor renowned for his portrayal of ‘Sonny T’ in the popular television drama “Royal Palm Estate,” has passed away at the age of 79. His wife of 40 years, Adelina Pedroda Zacca, confirmed his death on the morning of April 2, 2025.

Munair Zacca’s Health Challenges and Final Years

Zacca had been battling diabetes and a lung disorder, which led to his gradual withdrawal from the stage in recent years. Adelina reflected on this period, stating, “It was a very difficult last couple of years. When he wasn’t on stage it was because he couldn’t. But he got a lot of love. I have received so many calls today.”

A Prolific Career in Jamaican Theatre and Film

Throughout his illustrious career, Zacca appeared in approximately 180 plays and collaborated with notable figures such as Miss Lou. He made history by being the only actor to perform nude on stage at The Ward Theatre in the play “Dream on Monkey Island.” His filmography includes roles in “Countryman” (1982), “Passion and Paradise” (1989), “Shottas” (2002), “Better Mus’ Come” (2011), “Kingston Paradise” (2013), and “Destiny” (2014). In 2008, he received the Best Supporting Actor award at the Actor Boy Awards for his performance in “Art.”

Remembering Munair Zacca’s Legacy

Adelina fondly recalled their meeting in the Cayman Islands four decades ago, leading to marriage and the birth of their daughter within the same year. She became his staunchest supporter, embracing Jamaican culture and her husband’s passion for the arts. Reflecting on his career, she noted, “He would say, ‘I have the fame but not the fortune,’ but I didn’t mind. It was destiny.”

Munair Zacca’s contributions to Jamaican theatre and film have left an indelible mark, and he will be remembered for his dedication to the arts and his impactful performances.
