Voletta Wallace, mother of the legendary rapper The Notorious B.I.G., has passed away. TMZ has confirmed that she died Friday morning in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, according to Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac.
Reports indicate that she was in hospice care, and her passing was due to natural causes.
Following the tragic loss of her son, Voletta played a crucial role in preserving Biggie’s legacy, managing his estate, and ensuring his wealth was passed down to his family, including his daughter, T’yanna Wallace.
She successfully oversaw the growth of Biggie’s estate, which was valued at approximately $10 million at the time of his death and has since expanded to an estimated $160 million.
Voletta was instrumental in celebrating her son’s achievements, particularly when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Her social media presence often highlighted his accomplishments, from streaming milestones to tribute concerts and cultural references.
When Biggie’s biopic, Notorious, was released in 2009, Voletta emphasized the importance of sharing his story with the world.
Christopher Wallace, known as The Notorious B.I.G., was tragically shot and killed in Los Angeles in 1997, shortly after the murder of his rap rival, Tupac Shakur.
Voletta Wallace was 78.
Rest in Peace.
